Bible Study is important to the Christian LIFE!

by Brian L. Baker
It is 7am. It is Sunday morning. You are in bed. It is cold outside. You have three kids that need to get ready for church. Suddenly, you want to go to First Baptist Mattress where you can pick a sleep-number for your pew.

Ok...that seems silly...but it is often the temptation in our lives. How do I know? That scenario takes place at my home every Sunday. Like you...I am tempted to stay in bed and avoid the Sunday morning hustle, especially when Addison spits up on me after her morning feeding.

However, my Sunday morning “get up an go” drive revolves around one thing...recognizing my position before a holy God. Christ was faithful to the study of the Word of God. As we study His life in the Gospels we see that Christ faithfully attended the synagogues. If He was faithful to the study of the Word...should not I be faithful?

Sunday is a day of worship...and Bible study is a part of giving Him worship. It is a time to gather together and learn about His Word and what He says. Plus, there is that one important aspect...we are commanded in Scripture to teach and learn the Word of God.

2 Timothy 2:15 says, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the Word of truth.”

Psalm 119:16 says, “I shall be delight in Thy statutes; I shall not forget thy Word.”

Jesus engaged in teaching and instruction. In Matthew 10 He gives his disciples instructions and teaches them to share the Gospel. In Matthew 12 Jesus teaches about sin and character. In Matthew 13 Jesus uses parables to teach the people and the disciples the truth of God’s Word. Over and over in Scripture, we see an emphasis in teaching and studying the Word of God. In fact, we find Jesus as a boy teaching in the temple (see Luke 2).

We are called to learn the Word of God. We are called to study. The example we see in Scripture is that we are to study together. Jesus did not teach to Himself, but He taught others. He trained His disciples to teach others. In His daily life we see Jesus teaching groups of people. We know that gathering for Bible study is important.

So...if teaching and study is important to our Savior...should we not make it important in our lives?

Every Sunday...you can attend a small-group or Bible study class. Here you can study the Word of God and learn how to apply it to your life in daily living. We invite you to join us this Sunday at 8:45am and discover the wonderful news found in the Bible.
God bless you all as you serve Christ daily!
